5 tips on what to do when you don’t know what to do…..

“The future is always uncertain, once the future becomes the present. There’s another uncertain future”. So just LIVE!!! ~Lazytexter

I was in 300level when I stopped writing JAMB, Funny right? Yeah, I thought so too. My dream was to become a Medical doctor, so I wanted to study medicine by all means. Whenever I was asked by my teachers what I want to become back then in Secondary school, I was quick to say Medical Doctor and my parents even started calling me “My Doctor”. My mum would even call me whenever she has a slight headache and ask me to prescribe a drug. Almost like I had my life figured out then….Hilarious!!!

Fast forward to when Secondary school was over and it was time for JAMB to determine our fate. I wrote post UTME in two different universities. One of the schools was on strike while I didn’t meet the requirements needed to study Medicine in the other school. BOOM! I was given admission to study something else, I had to take it cos I wasn’t ready to sit at home for a year.

There are times when we just sit and stare into space with a blank head trying to figure out what step to take next….

i. You can’t have it all figured out

Sometimes, all you need to do is to take a break from planning, just sit and watch. Life is full of surprises, you don’t know what to always expect. Somethings you love doing today, you could wake up tomorrow and not find it interesting . Whatever it is you have passion for and you think you’re not doing so well, keep trying to improve on it and if you feel you want to do something else, do it also. Satisfy your curiosity!!!.

ii. Change your usual Environment

Most times your situation, stress and pressure from people are too high to make you think clearly. Even if you try, you find it hard to think. In such cases, it’s hard to know what you want, so it’s important you focus on self care. Escape from your usual environment. Go on a trip if you can afford it but if you can’t, just take a weekend to spend time on yourself, completely isolated from people and think in a quiet place. Let your thoughts flow freely without pressure!!!.

iii. Stop procrastinating

Life is not going to stop neither is time going to wait for you to figure out yourself. Sorry, but it’s the truth. You have to start acting and stop dreaming. Write out things you want to do and set a time target for each activity. Focus more on doing it rather than posting it!!!.

iv. Save up

A wise person once said “No amount of money is too small to save”. There are so many saving applications to help you with a savings plan. Try saving even if it’s just a little!!!.

v. Ask questions

There are probably people already doing really well in that field you’re aspiring to be. Find ways to ask them questions on aspects you’re yet to find a balance. Google is another platform to help with your inquisitive mind. Make use of the platform!!!.

When you finally figure out your values, needs, priorities and life goals…..Everything becomes different!!!.

It’s actually feels more sad when you’re into a course and you don’t know if you’ll have an impact there or if it’s the right choice for you.
