“I can’t get a comb through my hair”
I took out my 2 months old braids few days ago because I needed to let my hair breathe for some days. Do I already regret this decision? YES!
Just to be clear… having a natural hair has its numerous perks but it can be sometimes difficult to maintain. Think of it as a sweet experience with a long list of hurdles.
I want to believe I’m not the only one who doesn’t get excited to wash my natural hair. The procedure can sometimes be draining especially if you haven’t washed your hair for a while. You have to pre-poo, then shampoo, then deep condition right after for at least an hour (depending on the instruction that comes with your conditioner).
This is the part I hate the most. It’s how my hair goes from 100-0 real quick after washing. Even though I’ve come to terms with it, it still doesn’t make it any less annoying.
Most times I use my fingers to detangle my hair before running a comb through it. Everytime I try to use a detangling brush on my natural hair, it ends up pulling out a lot of hair. Other times I just wet my hair with water and also apply leave-in-conditioner before combing the hair out. Depending on the hair texture and type, Detangling may be a Dream or a Nightmare.
This is the most frustrating and annoying natural hair problem that most people encounter. This could happens due to several reasons which include taking out old braids, hormonal changes, hair texture, frequent styling etc. Hair breakage can be reduced with proper hair care and handling. However, it cannot be stopped completely.. Don’t expect magic.
Finding the right products
I came to understand that there’s really nothing like “the right product” after 3 years of being on my natural hair journey. There are so many natural hair products available at stores and even new emerging products. It is best to try different safe products until you finally find the one that’s best for your natural hair.
